Scuba Diving
Puerto Costa Maya has also partnered with the Dreamtime Dive Centre in nearby Mahahual to offer a new scuba diving tour of the Meso-American Barrier Reef system that surrounds the port. The PADI certified operation will transport divers to extraordinary and pristine dive sites known for their abundance of coral and ledge formations as well as marine life
Mayan Reality Tour
One of Puerto Costa Maya’s newest cultural experiences will transport passengers from the port’s modern complex into the heart of a true Mayan town, where they will visit an actual Mayan family, experience daily life and learn about traditional herbal medicines. Guests will then be invited to taste local Mayan dishes that include traditional buried earth cooking, hand made tortillas and local exotic fruits and vegetables.
Bacalar and Spanish Fort
Passengers will be transported from the port’s modern complex into the heart of the colonial world, where they will visit the ancient Spanish fort of San Felipe, learn about Mayan history and enjoy lunch next to remote Bacalar Lake. Visitors are also afforded the chance to cool off with a swim in the lake, known by the ancient Mayans as the birthplace of the rainbow for its various shades of blue.
Eco Airboat Tour and Beach Getaway
Guests will board airboats in the nearby Rio Huach National Reserve and travel through virgin mangrove forests while guides point out the incredible diversity of animal life including crocodiles, fishing eagles, countless species of fish and many more. After many photographs and time in the preserve, guests will be transported to the beach side palapa for lunch and eventual return to the port.
Chetumal Mayan Museum and Spanish Fort
Visitors are afforded the chance to explore two cultures – the mysterious rise and fall of the great Mayan empire at the Chetumal Mayan Museum and the arrival and fate of the Spanish conquistadors at the Spanish Fort in the village of Bacalar
Xpeed Boat Excursion
Guests will be transported to Bacalar Lagoon where they will take off on small personal speed boats in a caravan through the blue waters. It is said that this lagoon was once a safe haven for the Mayan people from the Spanish invaders. It later was used by Pirates to out run and ambush Spanish Galleons.
